Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

The IACHR is a principal and autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS) in charge of the promotion and protection of human rights in the American continent. It is made up of seven independent members who serve in a personal capacity and is based in Washington, DC It was created by the OAS in 1959 and, jointly with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), installed in 1979, is an institution of the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights (SIDH).
